︎ The installation appropriates texts from Almanah Femeia (1970), a domestic magazine addressed to women across Romania during Ceausescu’s dictatorship. The magazine, as all mass media, was a tool for propaganda, promoting and encouraging a certain behaviour among women. The magazine promotes the image of the woman as “the heroine of the working class” and “a domestic goddess” altogether incorporating intimate and personal confessions under a “sentimental manual”. The work tries to make these messages visible by re-contextualising them on a contemporary background. The 5 metres long strips make a comment on the opulence with which the communist regime imposed its doctrine and the limited freedom of speech that women had.
