Lera Kelemen, b. 1994
Based in London, UK

Lera Kelemen’s installation practice reflects on notions of femininity, confinement, body structure, vulnerability & equilibrium. Analysing the limitations of bodies in space, she uses her own body to model and enliven matter. Her works result in conceptually immersive settings where shapes, surfaces and armatures blend together to define new entities.

In the past two years, she developed a new body of work inspired by anatomical anomalies, encasings and their extension into physical space. Oscillating between familiar and uncanny, the installations ignite an eerie sense of claustrophobia that comes across where matter is trapped within its own shape. Her post-humanist approach stems from an interest in technology and its transmutation into organic matter, an interest which she solidified during her studies in Information Experience Design.
